Gwyneth Paltrow doesn’t take herself too seriously, something she demonstrated in her surprise Saturday Night Live appearance this weekend.
In the “Weekend Update” segment of the show, a fictional Goop employee called Baskin appeared on-air to promote some products to Michael Che. However, getting visibly nervous part way through, said employee beckoned her Goop supervisor to join her, which turned out to be none other than Paltrow herself.
Going by the name Fifer, Paltrow reassured Baskin that she wouldn’t be fired for any on-air mistakes. “She doesn’t believe in firing. Remember? It’s called ‘conscious unemploying,'” she deadpanned, in reference to the phrase “conscious uncoupling” that Paltrow used in her joint statement with ex-husband Chris Martin when the pair separated.
Joking about Goop’s product range, Paltrow explained, “We have a new Himalayan salt scrub and it is the No. 1 salt scrub. Rated No. 1 in overall salt. I mean, actually, I’d like to tell you what salt is instead.” When Che claimed to already know what salt was, Paltrow skeptically asked him, “So, you know it’s angry sugar?”
Paltrow even talked about some of Goop’s newest products during the skit, including the G.Day Ginger + Ashwagandha Energy Body Wash and G.Tox Himalayan Salt Scalp Scrub.
Paltrow is currently in New York for the In Goop Health Summit, which offers attendees a plethora of benefits including yoga and pilates classes, facials and massages, endless amounts of healthy food, celebrity guests, and advice from health and wellness experts. But it’s good to know that she’s not given up acting altogether just yet.
